On June 10th 2010, I sent out this email in an attempt to found a Personal Board of Directors, to whom I can turn for advice and ideas, and to make a yearly review of how I’m doing, and what I can do better.
If you are interested in having your own Personal Board of Directors, please feel free to use my email (or other information) as a template. If you want to be on m board of directors, please read the email below, and send your info and answers to FarMcKon@gmail.com.
Hey Folks, I've jokingly been referred to as 'Far McKon Cooperative Industries' on and off over the last few years. I recently joined a Getting Things Done Cult. Or, I meant to say Club. Getting Things Done Club. Anyway, one of the folks at the club recommended having a board of directors, and a yearly review. So, based on that idea I am reaching out to ask if you, dear reader, would like to be on my personal Boardof Directors! As a member of the Board of Directors for Far McKon Cooperative Industries, you would be asked to : * Once a year read a short document, covering what I plan to do in the next year, and provide feedback. * Once a year read a summary of what I did in the last year, and provide feedback. * If possible, attend the yearly Board Picnic, located in Philadelphia PA. * Be available for the occasional phone call asking for advice in your area of expertise * A nicely printed Diploma to hang in your office! This is not a joke. However it is about 10% farce. I think I get good life advice from friends, but in a hodge-podge way. Seeking out good advice, and making a bit of a framework for it, and making it a bit of a farce is my way to learn from people with different experiences, get good advice to grow as a human, and connect to some people I respect. If you are interested in this opportunity, please reply with one or two sentence answers to the following questions: * Do you feel comfortable advising Far? In what venue of life (finances, or career, or Life, The Universe, and Everything? ) do you have good advice to give? * From what you know of Far, what are two things he does well? * From what you know of Far, what are two things he need to work on? If you choose to reply with some answers, I'll get back to you in a bout a week with follow up information. If you are getting this email it means I value your opinion, and want more of it. Whether or not you are interested, thank you for being a positive influence in my life. hack on, - Far P.S. Oh yes, this is an unpaid position. Unless you consider a picnic once a year 'pay'. It'll be a mighty tasty picnic! http://www.Hive76.org "Making things awesome, making awesome things!" http://www.FarMcKon.net "Creatively Maladjusted"

Hi Far,
Have your found directors? I happen to know a little something about being a director, though in truth, you probably seek a board of something-other-than-directors, maybe, mentors. An annual trip to Philly, perhaps in conjunction with http://www.PhillyFreeSkate.org, might be worthwhile.

John,
I did, and we met once, but didn’t go from there. I was hoping to do a once a year review and such, but it didn’t work out. I kind of dropped out of the quantified life movement a bit (which is where I got the idea) so going from that lost me some of that momentum. Give me a shout when you are in Philly, it would be awesome to catch up.
